The dairy activity has a satisfactory perspective on the world scenario and this is due to the improvement of technologies in the activity and the choice of the best breeding system. The objective of this work was to carry out a theoretical approach on the different systems of raising dairy cows. A scientometric study of scientific literature published in journals indexed in the SciELO database was carried out. The search was carried in 2022 and the following descriptors were used, in portuguese and english: dairy cow production systems; facilities for dairy cows; extensive system of/for dairy cows; semi intensive system from/to dairy cows; intensive system from/to dairy cows; collective beds for dairy cows; single beds for dairy cows; loose Housing; free stall and compost barn. The process resulted in 21 articles, from which the information was collected: year of publication, central thematic axis of the research, periodicals with the highest number of publications on the theme and the classification of the periodical. Data were analyzed descriptively. The analysis revealed a low number of publications on the subject, over more than 20 years, mostly in low impact journals. The main themes of the publications addressed the characteristics of the Free-Stall system, studies on the economic and financial viability of intensive production systems and the Compost Barn System. There was a highlight in publications that evaluated the environmental conditions both in the Free Stall system and in the Compost Barn system.

This study aimed to assess and compare the nutritional, technological, and sensory characteristics of Minas fresh cheese made with goat milk, cow milk, or a mixture of the two stored in cold conditions for 21 d. The yield and centesimal composition of the cheeses were not affected by the type of milk used in their preparation. Reductions were observed in the moisture content, pH, proteolysis index, and instrumental hardness; moreover, increases were observed in the syneresis, acidity index, and depth of proteolysis index in all cheeses. The percentages of caprylic, capric, oleic, and linoleic fatty acids were higher in goat milk cheese and cheese made with a mixture of goat and cow milk compared with cow milk cheese, and a sensory evaluation revealed differences in color, flavor, and aroma between the cheeses. The preparation of Minas fresh cheese with a mixture of goat and cow milk can be a viable alternative for dairy products in the market that can be characterized as high-quality products that meet consumer demands.

Brucellosis is widespread and of major economic importance in most countries of the world particularly amongst the dairy cattle. It is most prevalent in areas of intensive cattle raising. Buffalo are highly susceptible to infection. In India, it is widely prevalent in all the states of India. It is also communicable to man. It is estimated that brucellosis causes an annual economic loss of 240 millions in cattle and buffalo and about 120 millions in human beings. A high incidence of disease has beenrecorded in organised farms among indigenous and crossbred cattle. It causes placentitis and abortion.

This study investigates influence of the anti-anthrax vaccination on blast transformation capacity of the leukocytes and also the possible in vitro influence of two, taxonomically different, autochthonous plants, Calendula officinalis and Vaccinium mirtyllus in promoting post-vaccinal proliferation. For that, blood was sampled on heparine (50 IU/ml) before and two weeks after the anti-anthrax vaccination (R 1190 Stamatin strain) of twenty-three dairy cows and 11 calves raised extensively. Blood samples were subjected to the in vitro blast transformation test, where glucose consumption was read after 72 hours of incubation at 37oC by the o-toluidine test. The experimental variants included samples treated with alcoholic extracts of the plants (7.5 μ/ml). There was a statistically significant increase in all the stimulation indices after the vaccination of the animals in cows, including those for Vaccinium myrtillus (48.57±13.27 to 53.53±12.49, p=0.02) and Calendulla officinalis (56.39±12.57 and 61.51±13.85, p=0.01). The increase induced in the growth of calf lymphocytes by the two plants was non-significant post vaccination. Both extracts could be used to enhance cell mediated immunity but there was an age dependent improvement of their in vitro response.
